Home FFGM Club Profile

THE FFGM CLUB:
The official name of our chapter is the Friendship Force of Greater Milwaukee.  Our membership averages 140 persons who reside in Milwaukee and in communities within a 25-mile radius. Members are of diverse backgrounds and professions and have many interests, multiple talents with lots of enthusiasm.  Some have volunteered for many non-profit organizations and causes. Foremost, our members are adventurers who enjoy opening their hearts and minds by hosting visitors and by traveling to new places around the world forging new friendships.

Since 1989 our members have participated in bridge-builders, missions, conferences and outbound exchanges all the major continents, including the Americas. In addition, FFGM has annually hosted many visitors through the Open World Program of the Library of Congress. Clubs from all over the globe have visited us to have the "Milwaukee experience".

THE CLIMATE:
The weather is seasonal in Milwaukee. The summer months, June-September, warm temperatures, (60-82'F), are often cooled by Lake Michigan breezes. During the winter months, December- February, with brisk and snowy days, (12-42' F), warmer attire is needed to enjoy the abundance of Wisconsin winter activities.

CLOSEST MAJOR AIRPORT:
Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, (within the city limits). No additional charge to ambassadors.  Chicago O'Hare International Airport, (90 miles from Milwaukee). Current cost of transportation between the airport (Chicago O'Hare) and Milwaukee are as follows:

  • Scheduled bus, (Wisconsin Coach Lines): $23 per person one-way, $41 round trip.  Group rates available.
  • Chartered bus $350-$400 one-way for up to 47 persons.
  • Train: Prices vary for air-to-rail service between O'Hare Int'l Airport and Milwaukee Mitchell Int'l

THE EXCHANGE:
Generally, FFGM has two outgoing exchanges and two incoming exchanges, along with their club activities throughout the year. Each inbound exchange is planned for visitors to experience everyday life with the host family along with a schedule of creative activities that may include special-interest tours, sightseeing, shopping, area events, and small dinner parties.

The maximum number of Ambassadors our club can host is 30.  While the primary focus is for the ambassadors to make friends with the host family, they can enjoy getting acquainted with other club members at one or more group functions or events during the week, such as an outing or the welcome and farewell parties. We hope to welcome you soon to a great place on a great lake: bold, beautiful and progressive Milwaukee.
