Milwaukee Diversity Dinner Initiative
About Friendship Force
Friendship Force International (FFI) is a worldwide network of clubs (local chapters) and individuals whose mission is to promote global understanding across the barriers that separate people. People from different cultures are connected at the personal level through local home stays. When hosts open their homes to visitors, true understanding can develop through such simple activities as conversation around the family dinner table and experiencing the routines of daily life. The values of FFI are mutual respect, cultural diversity, cultural exploration and service.
About Diversity Dinners
After a long and successful history of reaching out to people around the world, Friendship Force of Greater Milwaukee recognizes that barriers exist right here in Milwaukee. We are sponsoring the innovative yet simple concept of Diversity Dinners. Groups are formed of approximately 10 people (pairs and singles) with very different backgrounds, interests, races and beliefs. Participants will agree to meet as a group every 4-6 weeks for rotating potluck dinners at member’s houses. Since everyone is bringing part of the meal and everyone helps with cleanup, no one person is stuck doing all of the work.
Diversity Dinner participants have conversations about the important issues of our time including sociological and psychological, political and economic, philosophical and religious. The discussions will enable each person to air and develop their own viewpoint. Participants are encouraged to be open minded and willing to listen in an effort to get to know their fellow participants in a nonjudgmental environment. Everyone has a right to their own opinion. The goal isn’t to convert or to reach consensus but to strive to understand. The result will be fascinating and enlightening discussions plus new friendships in the community.
How to get involved
We are asking those who are interested in participating in a Diversity Dinner group to complete a personal profile questionnaire. Click on this link DD Application to download the application. Your candid responses will allow us to form groups with diverse participants. We will be sensitive to your travel time to the dinners. Since it may take time to find the right mix of people, we ask for your patience.
Please print and fill out the Personal Profile Questionnaire. Return it to:
Donna Baldwin Haut, 238 Main St., Pewaukee, WI 53072.
Feel free to contact any member of the Diversity Dinner Committee with questions, concerns or comments. We value your input.
